RARE Early Police Sword w/Polizei
Langet Eagle.WKC knight's helmet TM. As stated
on page 249 of Swords of Germany 1900/1945 by John
R. Angolia,
"both the Police and Fire
Department official's were required to wear a sabre
of army design until their distinct pattern sword
was introduced in 1936. There was no fixed pattern
prior to this time, thus a wide variety of the earlier
saber can be encountered ,
". Photographs
of this WKC model Nr. 1056 Dove Head sword with
attached Wehrmacht langet eagle appear on page 137,
upper, of the above reference. Gilded brass hilt
fittings show surface wear/age patina with traces
of the factory gilding remaining in the recesses
pommel with large oval unadorned pommel cap, oak
leaf embellished backstrap, ferrule and knuckle-bow,
as well as crossguard complete with aluminum Polizei
eagle pinned to the plain pebbled surface of the
obverse langet. Black celluloid grip shows minor
surface wear with no cracks or chips and is complete
with tight twisted brass wire wrap. Plain plated
blade measuring 29 ½" in length grades
EX+ showing light surface wear/runner marks with
a few minor surface scratches, but no lifting, or
nicks to the cutting edge, and is complete with
brown leather buffer pad. Dent-free steel scabbard
retains approximately 80% of the original black
enamel showing surface wear/crazing/scratching to
obverse/revwith some spots of missing paint on lower
1/3 of scabbard as well as lower portion of drag.
