Third Reich Lion Head Sword w/Saxony Crest and Original
Storage Bag. E. Pack & Söhne (blacksmith) TM. An
illustration of this sword appears on page 163 (upper)
of Collecting the Edged Weapons of the Third Reich,
Volume II from the translation of the E. Pack &
Söhne catalog, pattern Nr. 536. Gilted aluminum
hilt shows wear to the highlights of the lion head
pommel, oak leaf knuckle-bow and crossguard with
open-winged eagle. Professionally riveted to the
center of the knuckle-bow is a silver badge with
the crest of the style of Saxony. Apparently, the
original owner was from this area of Germany which
included Dresden which was the capital of the Kingdom
of Saxony. Black celluloid grip shows light surface
wear with no cracks or chips and with tight twisted
wire wrap present. Plated blade measuring 32 ½”
grades excellent+ showing virtually no wear but
with lifting to the plating at the tip of the blade
(2” long area). Blue felt blade buffer pad is present.
Dent-free scabbard retains approximately 90% of
original black enamel showing surface wear (primarily
where sword knot has rubbed) and some minor crazing.
Sword is complete with Officer pattern sword knot
with bullion acorn and ultra-rare, original red
fabric storage bag. Bag is stamped in black letters,
“Blanke Waffen dans Ernst Pack & Söhne, m.b.h.,
Solingen” and with blacksmith logo. Bag shows damage
to snap fastener and has repair to lower end. Ultra-rare
combination! First time we have seen an original
Pack sword storage bag. Exc. (18722) $1,595.
