Personalized "Scharnhorst" Model 1706
Field Marshal Series Lion Head Sword w/Double Etched
Presentation Blade. Carl Eickhorn, stamped squirrel
holding sword TM. Gilted aluminum hilt fittings
show virtually no wear to highlights with 100% of
the muted, honey-gold, fire gilting remaining on
the lion head pommel with red glass eyes, oak leaf
embellished backstrap, knuckle-bow and ferrule,
as well as crossguard with closed wing Wehrmacht
eagle on the obverse langet. Reverse langet is personalized
with the initials "FH" in an intertwined,
shaded script cipher with underside of crossguard
stamped "D.R.P.". Black celluloid-over-wood
grip is perfect with no cracks, chips or damage,
and is complete with triple, twisted aluminum wire
wrap. Plated double-etched blade measuring 31 5/8"
in length grades EX++/Near MINT showing minor surface
wear/runner marks with no speckling, lifting or
nicks to cutting edge and is complete with brown
leather blade buffer pad. Obverse blade features
an etched pattern which appears in the Eickhorn
Kundendienst as number "3241", and consists
of a 14 1/8" long panel with a raised floral/geometric
motif on a frosted gray background flanking a central
presentation inscription in raised gothic letters,
"Gewidmet vom 1. Bug d. 18. (Erg.) A.R.78 (M.G.)
im November 1938." (A gift from 1. Gun 18th
Reserve Company Artillery Regiment 78 (Machine Gun)
in November 1938). The reverse blade features Eickhorn
etch pattern number "3237" which consists
of a 14 1/8" long panel with a raised floral/geometric/military
equipment motif on frosted gray background. The
etched panels retain 100% of the background frosting
and blade is complete with brown leather blade buffer
pad. Dent-free steel scabbard retains approximately
98% of the original black enamel showing light surface
crazing and some missing paint primarily to drag.
Superb Scharnhorst example with rare double-etched
