Army Model Nr. 21 Lion Head Sword. No Maker. Although unmarked this sword features the distinctive F. W. Höller Nr. 21 hilt that appears as a full-color illustration on page 10 of the 1941 Höller Sales Catalog. Gilted brass hilt fittings show surface wear/dark age patina to the highlights with portions of the matte fire gilting remaining in the recesses of the stylized lion head pommel with red glass eyes, oak leaf embellished backstrap and knuckle-bow, and large langet with stylized Wehrmacht eagle & swastika. Black celluloid grip is perfect with triple wire wrap present. Plated blade measuring 34 3/8" in length grades EX showing surface wear/runner marks minor gray speckling/surface scratches and nicks to cutting edge. Blade is complete w/brown leather blade buffer pad. Dent-free steel scabbard retains approximately 80% of the original black enamel, showing uniform surface wear to obverse/reverse and some oxidation to center obverse. EX/EX+ (24026) $2,495.
