Third Reich Lion/Leopard Head Sword w/Sword Knot, O-T-S & Teardrop Hanger.No maker. Although unmarked an illustration of this pattern lion head pommel appears in the WKC Sales Catalog on sword pattern Nr. 1057 and Nr. 1059. Photographs of this pattern pommel also appear on pages 136, 137, 138 and 141 of Swords of Germany 1900-1945 by John R. Angolia. Gilded brass hilt fittings show virtually no surface wear with virtually 100% of factory gilding remaining on the highlights and in the recesses of the heavily chiseled lion/leopard head pommel with red glass eyes, backstrap and knuckle- bow with raised oak leaves and crossguard with lion head quillon and raised crossed swords and acorns on the obverse langet. Black, simulated grained leather, celluloid-over-wood grip, is perfect with no wear, cracks or chips, and is complete with triple, twisted, brass wire wrap. Curved, plated, blade measuring 31" in length grades EX++ showing light surface wear/runner marks and some minor sharpening to the lower obverse cutting edge, but no lifting or nicks to cutting edge. Dent-free steel scabbard retains approximately 100% of the original black enamel with only a few spots of crazing and a few small surface scratches. Suspension band is missing the suspension ring. The sword knot with gray/green leather strap and aluminum bullion stem/crown/acorn grades EX+ showing light wear and age. The over-the-shoulder strap with tan leather tab/nickel clip and original tan leather teardrop hanger with calfskin backing and nickel upper fitting and lower "oLc" marked clip grade Near MINT.
