Deluxe Lion Head Sword w/Unique Enameled "Reichsadler"
Langet. W.K.&C, side-by-side Kings head
and Knights helmet TM. A similar example of this
deluxe sword is illustrated in the Imperial WKC
sales catalog as Nr. 27 "Feiner Cavallerie-
und Artillerie-Offizier-Parderkopf-Säbel mit
neuen Eichenlaubbügel". Grosser, gilded
brass hilt fittings show faint surface wear with,
virtually 100% of the matte, honey gold finish remaining
on the heavily-chased, lion/panther head pommel
with ruby-red glass eyes, floral enhanced/stippled
backstrap, and knuckle-bow with raised, Imperial
German Crown above a large, raised "WIII"
cipher surrounded by heavily chased oak leaves with
lion head crossguard guillon. Obverse langet features
a raised "Deutscher Reichsadler" (German
State Eagle) with a black/white enamel and gold
shield on the eagle's chest. The reverse langet
features a raised shield with a helmet crest and
floral mantle with no engraving on the shield. The
underside of the crossguard is stamped "Geschutztes
muster" (Protected Design). Black bakelite/horn
grip is perfect with no cracks or chips and is complete
with tight, triple-twisted silver wire wrap. Massive,
curved, quillback blade measuring 34 ¼"
in length and 1 1/8" in width at the ricasso
grades EX+ showing light age/surface wear with gray
speckling primarily to lower obverse and upper reverse
with two nicks to lower cutting edge, and is complete
with white suede buffer pad. Both obverse and reverse
blade feature 4 ¼" long etched panels
adjacent to the ricasso. Obverse panel features
a raised "Deutscher Riechsadler" flanked
above and below with a raised floral motif and marked
"Eisenhauer". The reverse panel features
a raised helmet/breast plate with swords and oak
leaves flanked above and below with a raised floral
motif. Both panels, as well as oak leaf embellished
spine, retain 100% of the light gray background
frosting. Dent-free, curved, bright nickel-plated
scabbard grades EX++/Near MINT with only minor speckling
to the drag and is complete with the two, pre-1908
pattern suspension bands/rings. The left/spine-side
retaining screw is missing. EX++ (25755) $4,495.
