Third Reich/Late Weimar Army Kavallerie NCO/EM Sword
w/Double-Etched & Blued Blade.Initals verson
A C S with scales, (Alcoso late Weimar period) stamped
TM. Plain, nickel-plated hilt fittings show faint
wear primarily to crossguard where a sword knot
has rubbed, and minor speckling, but no lifting
to the unadorned pommel or knuckle-bow. Black Bakelite-over-wood
grip has a small hair line crack on the upper obverse
and reverse adjacent dove head pommel, but no chips
or scuffs, and is complete with tight triple twisted
brass wire wrap. Plated double-etched blade measuring
34 ¼" in length grades Near MINT showing
light surface wear/runner marks, but no pitting,
lifting or nicks to cutting edge. Obverse blade
features a 14" long etched panel with the central
inscription in raised Gothic letters on a blued
background, "Adolf Pressel 10. (Prreus.) Reiter
Regiment" (Adolf Pressel 10th Prussian Mounted
Regiment) flanked by floral designs, military equipment,
and a raised horse heads on frosted gray background.
Reverse blade features a 14" long etched panel
with a central, raised depiction on a blued background
of mounted Cavalry units with a fence and trees
in the background. The central panel is flanked
by floral designs with crossed swords and riffles
on frosted gray background. The etched panels retain
approximately 99% of the background bluing/frosting
with only a few specks of wear/speckling. There
is no wear or damage to the laurel leaf etched blade
spine or to the red felt blade buffer pad. Dent-free
steel scabbard with stationary suspension ring retains
approximately 98% of the original factory black
enamel showing minor surface wear/scuffs to scabbard
shell, but no major loss of paint. Research in the
1932 Reichsheer Rank List indicates that the 10th
Reiter Regiment was garrisoned at Zülltschau
(now Züllsdorf) located approximately 80km
SE of Potsdam as part of 2nd Reiter Division. In
addition to the aforementioned Rank List information
the documentation includes a photograph of Herr
Pressel and a letter from the German Military Records
Bureau indicating that Herr Pressel was born on
20 November 1912, served in WWII , was listed as
missing in North Africa in 1942, captured by the
Canadians and survived the war in a POW camp. Superb
