Third Reich Dove Head Sword w/Double-Etched Blade.
WKC, beneath knight's helmet stamped TM. Photographs
of this pattern sword appear on page 139 of Swords
of Germany 1900/1945 by John R. Angolia as "WKC
pattern (unattributed) with short-winged cast national
emblem". Gilded, cast brass hilt fittings show
minor surface wear to highlights with 100% of the
matte, "honey-gold" factory finish remaining
on heavily chased, oak leaf embellished pommel,
backstrap, ferrule, knuckle-bow and crossguard with
raised short open wing Wehrmacht eagle on
obverse langet. Black celluloid grip shows faint
surface wear with no cracks or chips and is complete
with triple twisted brass wire wrap. Plated double-etched
blade measuring 34 1/4" in length grades Near
MINT showing light surface wear/runner marks, but
no pitting, lifting or nicks to cutting edge. Obverse
blade features a 13 1/2" long etched panel
which is illustrated in the WKC Sales Catalog on
a Miner's Sword. The etch pattern features a raised
vine and floral motif flanking the central inscription
in raised Gothic letters on a gray frosted background,
"Feldwebel Friedrich Detmar Bremen, 1.12.1936."
(Technical Sergeant Friedrich Detmar Bremen,
01 December, 1936). The reverse blade features a
13 1/2" long etched panel with the central,
raised presentation inscription in raised Gothic
letters on a gray frosted background, "In
Dankbarer Anerkennung Elimar Freese" (In
Grateful Recognition Elimar Freese). The etched
panels retain 100% of the background gray frosting
with no wear or damage to the laurel leaf etched
blade spine. The blade is complete with brown leather
buffer pad. Steel scabbard retains approximately
90% of the original black enamel showing surface
wear/scratching with several small depressions to
the lower obverse shell near drag, but no rusting
or corossion. Nice WKC presentation, double-etched
example. EX++(25966)$4,850. SOLD
