Long
KS/98 Bayonet w/Single-Etched Blade & Frog.
E. & F. Hörster Solingen, sword within
"H" double-oval TM. A photograph of this
etch pattern appears on page 181 upper of German
Etched Dress Bayonets 1933-1945 by Wayne
H. Techet as a decorative F. W. Höller etch
not shown in the 1941 Höller catalog. This
is probably another instance in which the Hörster
firm contracted with F. W. Höller to produce
an etched bayonet. Nickel-plated hilt fittings show
surface wear/speckling primarily to edges of pommel
and some spots lifting on spine and crossguard.
Pommel slot is complete with red felt plug. Black
bakelite grip plates have a few tiny chips/nicks
to obverse right edge, but no cracks. Plated blade
measuring 24.7cm in length grades Exc+ showing minor
wear/runner marks with a few gray specks on ricasso
and near obverse tip, but no nicks to cutting edge
and is complete with original black leather blade
buffer pad. Obverse blade features an etched pattern
consisting of raised oak leaf accents bordering
a flowing, 3-section ribbon motif inscribed with
a standard remembrance inscription for service with,
"Panzer Abw. 25. Kornwestheim." (Kornsestheim
is just N of Stuttgart). Dent-free steel scabbard
retains virtually 100% of the original black enamel
showing only faint surface wear with no lifting
or crazing. Black leather, quadruple-stitched frog
grades Exc++/Near MINT with no rips or tears. Exc+
(24635) $650.
