Long Extra-Seitengewehr 84/98 Bayonet w/Single-Etched
Blade. Puma Solingen, (Lauterjung & Sohn)
Puma head within diamond TM. A photograph of this
etch pattern appears on page 213 of German Etched
Dress Bayonets by Wayne H. Techet as Puma motif
Nr. 6350. Nickel-plated hilt fittings show surface
wear/speckling to the straight cut pommel and crossguard
without quillon with loss of plating to press button
and edge of pommel slot which is complete with original
green felt plug. Black bakelite grip plates are
perfect with no cracks or chips. Plated blade measuring
25cm in length grades Exc++/Near MINT showing only
light runner marks with no graying, lifting or nicks
to cutting edge, and is complete with original black/dark
brown leather blade buffer pad. Reverse blade features
a 5 1/8" long, etched panel with an open-winged
eagle/swastika on entwined vines at the point end
and a Wehrmacht eagle over entwined vines nearest
the ricasso, flanking a three-line standard remembrance
inscription in raised Gothic letters for service
with, "Infanterie-Regiment No. 3 Deutsch-Eylau"
(The 3d Infantry Regiment was assigned to the the
21st Infantry Division garrisoned in East Prussia).
Etched panel retains 100% of the original factory
background frosting. Dent-free, steel scabbard retains
approximately 80% of the original black enamel showing
surface wear/crazing primarily to the obverse shell.
