Blade, Frog & Portepee. E.Pack & Söhne,
Solingen, large Siegfried Waffen TM. An example
of this RARE etch pattern is pictured on pages 156
of German Etched Dress Bayonets by Wayne H. Techet.
Nickel-plated hilt fittings show light surface wear
with gray speckling and some minor lifting to obverse
pommel and revrse crossguard. Pommel slot is complete
with red felt plug. Black bakelite grip plates are
perfect with no cracks or chips and complete with
the off-set screws used by the Pack firm. Plated
blade measuring 24.5cm grades EX+ showing minor
surface wear/runner marks and a few specks of gray
speckling or obverse/reverse ricasso, but no pitting,
lifting or nicks to the cutting edge and is complete
with black leather buffer pad. Obverse blade features
the two-line remembrance of service inscription
in raised Gothic letters, "Zur Erinnerung an
meine Dienstzeit"". To the right of the
inscription is a 5cm long, frosted oval panel with
a superbly detailed motif of a large closed-wing
Wehrmacht eagle and swastika above a Stahlhelm surrounded
by surrounded by raised laurel leaves. Dent-free,
steel scabbard retains approximately 90% of the
original black enamel showing uniform crazing to
the obverse/reverse shell with minor wear to the
edges and lower ball. The black leather frog shows
much crazing and some lifting to the original patent
finish, but no rips or tears and no damage to the
stitching. The, original to the piece, portepee
shows light wear/age to the gray strap, red/white/red
stem/slide/crown (2nd Company) and gray acorn and
insert. As stated in the above reference, "Because
so few were produced, Pack's oval line are difficult
to locate and collect today".RARE E. Pack etched
bayonet recently obtained in Germany. EX/EX+ (25876)
