Ultra-Rare Long KS/98 RLB Prototype
Bayonet. No maker. This is only the second complete
example of this ultra-rare prototype bayonet known
to date. This example was recently obtained in Germany
and is virtually identical to the example described
and pictured on pages 81 - 84 of Collecting the
Edged Weapons of the Third Reich, Volume VIII. Solid
nickel hilt fittings show light surface wear/age
patina to pommel and crossguard featuring a stylized
RLB straight-winged eagle with swastika. Pommel
is without slot but is stamped on top with "74".
Black bakelite grip plates are perfect with no cracks
or chips and are complete with two aluminum rivets
with reverse rivet stamped with the number "5".
Plated blade measuring 25cm in length grades excellent+
showing light surface wear/runner marks primarily
towards tip and with some minor crazing to plating
on ricasso. Blade spine is stamped "RLB"
confirming that the details in Volume VIII are correct
and is complete with dark brown leather blade buffer
pad. Dent-free steel scabbard retains approximately
95% of the black enamel, showing only light surface
wear/crazing with some scratches to enamel. The
rarity of this piece places it in a category with
the ultra-rare Diplomatic bayonet by Alcoso (only
two originals are known to date), and the one-of-a-kind
Red Cross bayonet by Robert Klaas! Exc+ (26474).
