Long KS/98 Bayonet w/Single-Etched
Blade. Carl Julius Krebs, Solingen encircling
a crowned cursive "K" TM. A photograph
of this etch pattern appears on page 230 of, German
Etched Dress Bayonets by Wayne H. Techet as Robert
Klaas motif Nr. 1252. The above reference also notes
that the Klaas firm had a close working relationship
with the C.J. Krebs firm. Nickel-plated hilt fittings
show surface wear with loss of plating primarily
to edges of pommel and to crossguuard/quillon. Pommel
is complete with original red felt plug in pommel
slot. Black bakelite grip plates are perfect with
no cracks or chips. Plated blade measuring 25.7m
in length grades Exc. showing surface wear/runner
marks, a spot of lifting on reverse ricasso and
several tiny nicks to cutting edge. Blade is complete
with original brown leather blade buffer pad. Reverse
blade features a 5 3/8" long etched panel with
"potted plant" bookend borders flanking
a distinctive, long, open-winged, centered eagle
above the standard remembrance of service inscription
in raised Gothic letters. Etched panel retains approximately
100% of the original factory background frosting.
Dent-free steel scabbard retains approximately 70%
of the original black enamel showing uniform surface
wear/crazing to obverse/reverse of shell and lower
ball. Exc+ (26508) $735. SOLD
