Third Reich Municipal Police Bayonet w/Double-TM,
Frog & Portepee. Weyersberg Kirchbaum &
Cie Solingen, 3-line inscription & knight's
helmet double-TM. Nickel-plated hilt fittings show
superb detail to eagle head pommel and oak leaf
embellished crossguard with minor surface wear,
but no lifting or speckling. Pommel slot is complete
with red felt slot plug. Reverse crossguard is stamped,
"S. Op. II.65 ." (Municipal Police property,
Administrative District Oppeln, police duty location
II, weapon number "65"). Dark brown, stag
horn grip plates are perfect with no cracks, chips
or age, and are complete with Third Reich Police
Eagle emblem properly pinned to the obverse plate.
There are no vestiges of the lower rivet holes often
found on cut-down bayonets. Plated blade measuring
33cm in length grades EX+/EX++ showing light surface
wear/runner marks, a few small gray specks, several
tiny nicks to cutting edge, with some evidence of
polishing towards tip where blade was shortened
during the 1936/1937 time-frame, but no pitting
or lifting. Spine of blade is Waffen-Amt marked,
with a small sunburst above the letter, "K"
and complete with black leather buffer pad. Black
leather scabbard shows minor surface wear with a
few tiny nicks, but no creases, rips, tears or damage
to the reverse stitching. Nickel scabbard fittings
show minor surface wear with twp faint depressions
to obverse lower fitting, but no flattening or splitting
to the lower ball, and are complete with both retaining
staples. Reverse upper scabbard fitting is stamped,
"S. Op. II.65." (Municipal Police property,
Administrative District Oppeln, police duty location
II, weapon number "65") matching the blade.
The left edge of the upper scabbard is stamped with
the additional number, "W 553" (possibly
an earlier or later weapon number that was assigned
to bayonet). The brown leather, triple-stitched,
four-rivet frog grades EX+ showing light wear/age
and minor loosening to the right-side stitching,
but no rips or tears. The reverse frog is stamped,
"Gend. 1937 252" (possibly "Gendarmie
1937 252"). The Police Officer portepee grades
VG+/EX showing wear to the leather strap and loss
of some of the aluminum bullion thread in the strap
and missing slide, but no damage to the crown or
acorn. Nice police combination. EX+/EX++ (25951)
