Long Rural Police Bayonet w/Double-TM,
Matching Numbers & Maker-Marked Frog. E.
& F. Hörster, Waffenfabrik, Solingen, H
H S monogram pierced by a sword (obverse) and E&F.HÖRSTER
SOLINGEN two-line italic mark (reverse) double-TM.
As stated on page 219 of The Sword And Knife Makkers
Of Germany 1850-2000 Volume 1 by the late Anthony
Carter, "Most of the [Hörster] bayonets
were stamped with the two line italic mark"..
Nickel-plated hilt fittings show superb detail to
eagle head pommel and oak leaf embellished crossguard
with minor wear to highlights. Reverse crossguard
is stamped, "L.Hi. 86." (Landjägerei/Rural
Constabulary property, Administrative District Hildesheim,
weapon number 86". Hildesheim is located approximately
30km SE of Hannover. Medium brown stag horn grip
plates show light surface wear with no cracks or
chips and complete with the Third Reich Police properly
pinned to the obverse plate. Grip plates show evidence
of being cut down during refurbishing as there are
holes filled with brown paste, on the lower obverse/reverse,
where rivets were previously inserted. Plated blade
grades EX+/EX++ showing light surface wear/runner
marks and some minor lifting but, no pitting or
nicks to cutting edge. Spine of blade is Waffen-Amt
marked with a " * over K ", and blade
is complete with dark brown leather buffer pad.
Brown leather scabbard shows light surface wear
with no creases, rips, tears or damage to the reverse
stitching. Nickel-plated scabbard fittings show
light surface wear with a faint depression to the
obverse lower fitting but. No damage to the lower
ball. The lower fitting is complete with the retaining
staple, however the frog has no been removed to
inspect the upper fitting staple. The reverse upper
fitting is stamped with the matching Rural Constabulary
and weapon number, "L.Hi. 86." The original
brown leather, four-rivet, triple-stitched frog
grades EX++ showing light surface wear but, no rips
or tears to stitching. The lower reverse frog is
stamped, "d l a" over 1941 (Karl Barth
Militäreffektenfabrik. Waldbroh/Rheinland).
Nice Rural Police Bayonet with double-trademark
and matching numbers that is becoming difficult
to obtain on today's collector market. EX++ (26677)
