Long Rural Police Bayonet w/Double-TM,
Matching Numbers & Partial Frog. E. &
F. Hörster, Waffenfabrik, Solingen, H H S monogram
pierced by a sword (obverse) and E&F.HÖRSTER
SOLINGEN two-line italic mark (reverse) double-TM.
As stated on page 219 of The Sword And Knife Makers
Of Germany 1850-2000 Volume 1 by the late Anthony
Carter, "Most of the [Hörster] bayonets
were stamped with the two line italic mark"..
Nickel-plated hilt fittings show superb detail to
eagle head pommel and oak leaf embellished crossguard
with minor wear to highlights. Reverse crossguard
is stamped, "L.D. 257." (Landjägerei/Rural
Constabulary property, Administrative District Düsseldorf,
weapon number 257 ". Dark brown stag horn grip
plates show light surface wear with no cracks or
chips and complete with the Third Reich Police properly
pinned to the obverse plate. Grip plates show no
evidence of being cut down and were possibly replaced
during refurbishing. Plated blade grades VG+/EX
showing surface wear/runner marks, dark gray speckling
and some oxidation and a minor crimp to the blade
tip but, no nicks to cutting edge. Spine of blade
is Waffen-Amt marked with a " * over K ",
and blade is complete with dark brown leather buffer
pad. Brown leather scabbard shows surface wear/age
with a crease to the lower obverse and an area of
swelling on the obverse/reverse below the upper
fitting but, no damage to the reverse stitching.
Nickel-plated scabbard fittings show surface wear
with a depression to the obverse lower fitting but,
no damage to the lower ball. Both fittings are complete
with the retaining staples and the reverse upper
fitting is stamped with the matching Rural Constabulary
Düsseldorf, weapon number, "L.D. 257."
The original brown leather, two-rivet, triple-stitched
frog grades EX showing surface wear but, no rips
or tears to stitching. The belt loop portion of
the frog has, for some unknown reason been cut off.
