KS/98 Bayonet w/Single Etched Blade
& Double TM. Stalking tiger and TIGER Solingen
double TM. Photographs of this etch pattern on an
Anton Wingen, Jr. marked bayonet appear on page
103 of German Etched Dress Bayonets by Wayne H.
Techet. Nickel-plated hilt fittings show minor surface
wear with minor lifting to the reverse pommel and
crossguard. Pommel slot is complete with original
red felt plug. Black bakelite grip plates are perfect
with no cracks or chips. Plated blade grades EX/EX+
showing light surface wear, with some minor gray
shadowing/speckling on obverse/reverse, and is complete
with black leather buffer pad. The reverse blade
features, as stated on page 103 of the above reference,
"similarities of the lettering style used in
the remembrance motto to those used in motif option
NR 2181 in the Robert Klaas 1938 catolog".
The etch pattern is a 6" long frosted panel,
with what appears to be an early version of the
"flower pot" design seen in the 1938 Klaas
catalog, flanking the two-line inscription in Gothic
letters, "Zur Erinnerung an meine Dienstzeit
in Würzburg." (In remembrance of my service
time in Würburg). Steel scabbard retains approximately
85% of the original black enamel, showing minor
surface wear/crazing, with missing paint and a small
depression to lower ball. Nice Tiger example with
seldom seen double Tiger trademark. EX+ (25852)
$455. SOLD
