Luftwaffe Forestry "Waffen-Loesche"
Bayonet w/Frog. Ch.AW, (Chromolit-Besteckfabrik,
Arthur Wingen) TM. A photograph and description
of this pattern bayonet appear on pages 176 &
177 of Seitengewehr: History of the German Bayonet
1919-1945 by George T. Wheeler. Polished steel spine
and flat oval crossguard show surface wear with
some age speckling. Dark brown staghorn grip plates
are perfect with no cracks or chips and are retained
by three slotted screw bolts. Polished steel, single-fuller,
step-down blade measuring 20.4cm in length grades
VG+/EX, showing light surface wear/runner marks
with some gray shadowing/speckling on obverse/reverse
and a few small spots of light pitting to the lower
reverse, but no nicks to cutting edge. Reverse ricasso
is retailer stamped, "Waffen-Loesche, Berlin"
who, as stated on page 280 of The Sword and Knife
Makers of Germany 1850 - 2000 Volume I by the late
Anthony Carter, "
was the distributor
of staghorn-gripped knives made by Chromolit-Besteckfabrik,
Arthur Wingen." The obverse ricasso is stamped
with the Wingen TM mark, "Ch. A W" below
"39" and with the letter "H"
stamped on spine of the blade. Dent-free steel scabbard
retains approximately 45% of the original black
enamel showing surface wear/crazing to obverse/reverse
shell and lower ball. Brown leather, double-stitched
frog grades EX+ showing wear/age to leather, but
no rips or tears and no damage to stitching. EX+
