Short
KS/98 Bayonet w/Single-Etched Blade & Frog.
No maker. Although unmarked this bayonet was certainly
produced by the E. Pack and Söhne firm as it
features Pack's Nr. 11 Neutral blade etch and the
hilt is equipped with the Pack style offset grip
retaining screws. Photographs of this etch pattern
appear on page 234 of German Etched Dress
Bayonets by Wayne H. Techet. Nickel-plated
hilt fittings show light surface wear with loss
of plating one tiny spot on the reverse crossguard
and with original green felt plug in pommel slot.
Black bakelite grip plates are perfect with no cracks
or chips and are complete with the correct Pack
style offset retaining screws. Plated blade grades
Exc++/Near MINT showing only faint surface wear/runner
marks, with no shadowing or nicks to cutting edge
and is complete with dark brown leather buffer pad.
Obverse blade features features a 5 3/8" long
frosted panel featuring raised floral motifs flanking
the three-line remembrance of service time inscription,
"Zur Erinnerung an meine Dienstzeit beim
Inf. - Rgt.11" in raised gothic letters.
Steel scabbard retains approximately 90% of the
original black enamel showing minor surface wear/crazing,
but no major loss of enamel. Black leather frog
grades Exc. with surface wear/crazing to patent
leather finish. Exc+ (24645) $650.
