Short
KS/98 Bayonet w/Scarce Single-Etched Blade &
Frog. E. Pack & Söhne Solingen, Siegfried
wielding hammer TM. A photograph of this etch pattern
appears on pages 145 of German Etched Dress Bayonets
1933-1945 by Wayne H. Techet as E. Pack & Söhne
variation pattern Nr. 6 Infanterie. Nickel-plated
hilt fittings show light surface wear with a few
gray specks to the reverse crossguard and with original
light green felt plug in pommel slot. Black bakelite
grip plates are perfect with no cracks or chips
and complete with off-set grip screws as used by
the Pack Firm. Plated blade measuring 19.8cm in
length grades Exc+ showing light surface wear/runner
marks minor a spot of lifting to the obverse/reverse
tip, but no nicks to cutting edge. Obverse blade
features a 5 ¾" long frosted etch panel
with the standard remembrance of service time inscription
in raised gothic letters flanked on the tip end
by raised oak leaves, and adjacent to the ricasso
the raised figure of an Infantry soldier in field
uniform with helmet and rifle with oak leaves at
his feet. Etched panel shows a few specks but no
loss of the gray background finish with superb detail
to the Infantry soldier. Blade is complete with
brown leather blade buffer pad. Dent-free steel
scabbard retains approximately 95% of the original
black enamel showing light surface wear/crazing,
but no major loss of enamel. Black leather, double-stitched
frog grades Exc+/Exc++ showing light wear/age age
crazing to the patent leather finish with no damage
to the stitching or to the gray felt backing. Nice
E. Pack example with SCARCE blade etch. Exc+ (24759)
$1,695.
