  Short KS/98 Bayonet by RARE Maker w/Frog & portepee. CURNA, a triangle with two crossed swords, (E.H. Otto Curdts Nachfolger GmbH, Stahlwarenfabrik, Solingen) TM. An illustration of this RARE trademark appears on page 109 of The Sword and Knife Makers of Germany 1850-2000 by the late Anthony Carter. This RARE maker marked example was recently veteran estate obtained in Germany. Nickel-plated hilt fittings show light surface wear with a few small spots of lifting to pommel, spine or crossguard and is complete with dark green felt plug in pommel slot. Black bakelite grip plates are perfect with no cracks or chips. Plain, plated blade measuring 20 cm in length grades EX++ showing light surface runner marks and a spot of graying on the lower obverse/reverse where runners have rested. Blade is complete with original black leather blade buffer pad. Dent-free, steel scabbard retains approximately 95% of the original black enamel showing surface crazing primarily to obverse shell and missing paint to the lower ball. Black leather, double-stitched frog grades EX+ showing light wear with crazing to the patent finish, but no rips, tears or damage to the stitching. Army NCO portepee grades EX+ showing light age with wear/fraying to slide. Nice bayonet combination by RARE maker. EX+/EX++ (25675) $345.
