1st Model Navy Dagger with "Depot" Markings.
WKC, knight's helmet TM. For more information on
the 1929 1st Pattern Navy dagger, see page 80 of
Collecting the Edged Weapons of Imperial Germany,
Volume I, by LTC (Ret.) Thomas M. Johnson and Thomas
T. Wittmann. Gilted brass hilt fittings show light
surface wear/age patina with portions of factory
gilting remaining in the recesses of the flaming
ball/wave-type pommel and crossguard with fouled
anchor design. Off-white celluloid-over-wood grip
shows light surface wear, with no cracks or chips,
and is complete with tight, twisted brass wire wrap.
Plain, double-fullered plated blade grades excellent+,
showing light surface wear and some light gray shadowing/speckling,
but no nicks to cutting edges. Reverse ricasso is
stamped with the control number, "0.665",
indicating this dagger was the property of "Ostseestation",
headquartered in Kiel, and is additionally stamped
with the Weimar eagle over "M" and complete
with original brown leather blade buffer pad. The
blade is equipped with a blade locking device, but
no push-button activator is housed in the crossguard.
The brass lightning bolt pattern scabbard shows
light surface wear with a pinhead size depression
on the lower right edge. Scabbard is complete with
reef knot style scabbard suspension bands, with
the reef knot only on the obverse. Scabbard throat
is also stamped with the Weimar eagle over "M"
Depot stamp. Nice textbook example of a WKC 1929
pattern Navy dagger with Depot markings. Exc+ (23334)
$1,895.
