Unusual Engraved Imperial Fire Axe. No maker. Heavy nickel- silver plated fittings highlight this piece. The obverse axe head features an unusual engraving pattern with a torch in the center of the head and a hammered background. Reverse of the head is not engraved. Has the long shaft, typical of the Imperial axes, with two presentation plaques. Is complete with two carrying rings. Black wood grip shows wear to the finish and is very heavy. Lower ball is heavily nickel-silvered. This is the first Fire Axe with this engraving pattern that I have encountered. Exc+ (11707) $1,195.
