Deluxe Gilt Imperial Fire Official Dagger. Carl
Eickhorn (back to back squirrels) TM. An examples
of this ornate dagger appears on page 102 of 1908
Musterbuch der Waffenfabrik Carl Eickhorn Solingen
as Model Nr. 778. In addition, photographs of an
Eickhorn marked example of this pattern dagger appear
on pages 226 and 227 of Collecting the Edged Weapons
of Imperial Germany by LTC (Ret.) Thomas M. Johnson
and Thomas T. Wittmann. Ornate gilted pommel features
the head of an elderly fire fighter in Imperial
helmet with leather neckguard. Gilted crossguard
features a center fire helmet surrounded by oak
leaves with quillions in the shape of fire axe heads.
Both pommel and crossguard show light wear to highlights
of gilting with much frosted gold remaining in recesses.
Black celluloid Bakelite grip is perfect with no
cracks or chips and with twisted silver wire wrap
present. Plated, double-etched 19" blade grades
excellent/excellent+ with some light graying on
obverse and reverse. Both sides of blade feature
lightly etched floral motif with center panels depicting
various pieces of fire fighting equipment. Red felt
blade buffer pad is present. Black leather scabbard
shows light surface wear with no creases, rips or
tears nor damage to reverse stitching. Upper, center
and lower gilted brass fittings show age and wear
with a small depression on upper and lower fittings.
Reverse retaining staples are present as well as
upper and center suspension rings. Rare dagger in
nice condition showing only commensurate age. Exc+
