Imperial Fire Official Dagger/Bayonet for Alsace-Lorraine.
WK&C, stamped side-by-side king's head, knight's
helmet TM. This pattern Fire Official dagger/bayonet
is illustrated in Imperial WK&C sales catalog
as No. 114 (Feuerwehr-Seitengewehr für Elass-Lothringen).
Ornate gilted brass hilt fittings show light surface
wear to the spherical pommel and crossguard with
large quillon block and down-turned quillons with
floral motif. Both pommel and obverse quillon block
feature a fire helmet and crossed fire axes motif.
Much of the original fire gilting remains in the
recesses of both pommel and crossguard. Black bakelite
grip shows light surface wear with one small hairline
crack on the upper left edge adjacent to the underside
of the pommel, but no nicks or chips. Grip is complete
with tight twisted triple wire wrap. Straight polished
double fullered single-edged blade measuring 15
7/8" in length grades Near MINT showing only
light surface wear and a few specks of graying on
the ricasso. Blade is complete with red felt blade
buffer pad. Black leather scabbard shows surface
wear to leather with some scuffing primarily to
the lower reverse but no rips, tears, or creases,
and no damage to the reverse stitching. Dent free
gilted brass upper and lower scabbard fittings show
light surface wear with much fire gilting remaining
in the recesses of the stylized flame motif on both
obverse and reverse fittings. Upper obverse fitting
is complete with bayonet style lug with raised fire
helmet motif. Rare Imperial Fire Official example
recently obtained in Germany. Exc+/Exc++ (22401)
