Five-line presentation is jeweler engraved in script letters, "Ehrengeschenk für den 1. Brandmeister Ed. Lauerland Gestiftet von der Mitgliedern der Hohenlunburger Freiw. Feuerwehr 1880-1907" (Honor Gift for the 1. Fire Chief Ed. Lauerland Presented by the Members of the Hohenlunburger Fire Department 1880-1907).

Both sides of the axe head are engraved with an oak leaf/acorn/fire fighting equipment motif with a center panel inscribed, "Gott zur Ehr/D.Nächsten/zur Wehr" (To Honor God [is] Next to Defense/Fighting).

One plate is engraved, "Ihrem Verehten Zugführer" while the other plate is engraved, "Die Freiwillige Feuerwehr Z. 22. Februar 1914" (To our Esteemed Unit Commander/the Volunteer Fire Department 22 February 1914).

Double-engraved axe head with oak leaves, acorns, fire helmet and fire axes. Dark brown wooden grip is ornately handcarved with oak leaves, acorns and checkering with inlaid ivory details. Upper handle features presentation plates on both obverse and reverse. One plate is engraved, "Ihrem Verehrten Zugführer", and the other plate is engraved, "Die Freiwillige Feuerwehr Z. 22. Februar 1914". Lower handle has a nickel-plated end cap featuring oak leaves and acorns. Several photographs of this ultra- rare Fire Official Axe are scheduled to appear in Volume II of the Imperial edged weapon series.

Double- engraved axe head shows fire helmet and fire axes. Black wooden handle is ornately carved on the lower half with oak leaves and checkering. Upper handle features presentation plates on both obverse and reverse. One plate is engraved, "Ihrem Langjahrigen Zugführer Hermann Winkelmann Auerbach Den 12.9.1909". Other plate is engraved, "Gewidmet Vom Steigerzug". Lower handle has nickel- plated end cap featuring etched ferrule and engraved pattern. Dagger is complete with double-strap, black hanger.

This unique Fire Axe has a plain plated axe head with a 4-line jeweler-engraved inscription on the obverse, which translates to, "H. Einfeld, for 30 years of service with the volunteer fire department, Co. 2 in Kiel/Wik, d.1.10.27". Attached to the grip is the nickel-silver Fire Official's insignia (helmet with crossed axes beneath).

Beautiful, ultra-RARE blond wood Fire axe has the presentation plate present, but is not engraved. Has the beautiful engraved head which has a dark burnishing to the background. The engraved portion of the head is in a floral motif. The center of the head is engraved with helmet and Fire axe. This piece is equipped with a most unusual and RARE axe hanger which is shaped with a Y-loop that goes around the shaft. Has an additional strap coming from the top and passes over the pommel nut. The strap passes through a roller buckle and can be tightened. There is an additional clip for attaching to a belt loop.
Unique Presentation Engraved Fire Axe

Fire axe head shows floral motif with crossed axes and fire helmet (on both obverse and reverse). Attached to the obverse top of the wood shaft is a beautiful (what appears to be Sterling silver) ornate plaque which is shaped in a shield design with scrolled edges. Engraved on this plaque is: "Die Stadt Digelstadt H. Eduard Wetzel fur 40 jahrige treu geleisteten Dienste in der freiwilligen Feuerwehr 22. Mai 1927". This basically translates to, "Outstanding service to H. Eduard Wetzel for 40 years true service in the Freiwilligen Fire Department, May 22, 1927".

An examples of this ornate dagger appears on page 102 of 1908 Musterbuch der Waffenfabrik Carl Eickhorn Solingen as Model Nr. 778. In addition, photographs of an Eickhorn marked example of this pattern dagger appear on pages 226 and 227 of Collecting the Edged Weapons of Imperial Germany by LTC (Ret.) Thomas M. Johnson and Thomas T. Wittmann. Ornate gilted pommel features the head of an elderly fire fighter in Imperial helmet with leather neckguard. Gilted crossguard features a center fire helmet surrounded by oak leaves with quillions in the shape of fire axe heads. Both sides of blade feature lightly etched floral motif with center panels depicting various pieces of fire fighting equipment.
