Deluxe Hunting Hirschfänger w/Double-Etched
Blade. No maker. Although unmarked, the fittings
on this example match exactly the full-size Hirschfänger
illustratedin the Eickhorn Kundendienst as "Hirschfänger,
Prunkausfürung, Nr. 1711 für die Deutsche
Jägerschaft" (Hirschfänger splendid
execution [deluxe] Number 1711 for the German Hunting
Association). This period miniature Hirschfänger,
measuring 9" in overall length, features 1-piece
cast brass fittings to deluxe oak leaf/acorn embellished
pommel cap, ferrule and recurved crossguard with
deluxe oval clamshell which features a raised Auerhahn
on an oak branch within a raised border. Metal grip
is painted dark brown and white to simulate stag
horn, and is complete with three raised brass acorns
with oak leaves cast into the obverse grip. Brass
hilt fittings show light surface wear/age patina
and the painted grip shows wear to the white paint
in the simulated stag horn panels. Plated double-etched
blade measuring 5 7/8" in length grades EX++,
showing only minor surface runner marks, primarily
to the obverse, but no pitting or nicks to the cutting
edge. Obverse blade features Eickhorn pattern scenes
of a hunter shooting at a running stag and doe flanked
by an Auerhahn and a large stag. The reverse blade
features a hunter with hunting dogs attacking a
wild boar flanked by an Auerhahn and a doe. Blade
is complete with original green felt buffer pad.
Green leather scabbard shows overall light surface
wear and minor loss of color, but no rips, tears
or damage to the reverse seam. Standard brass scabbard
fittings show light surface wear/age patina with
a few faint depressions to upper and lower fittings.
Obverse lower fitting features two incised lines
with an acorn motif suspension lug on the upper
fitting. Nice Eickhorn pattern deluxe Hunting Hirschfänger
