M-1936 Austrian Air Defense (Anti-Aircraft)
Dagger. Zeitler, Wien VIII TM. An example of
this rare dagger is shown on pages 21 & 22 of
World of Dress Daggers 1900-1945 by Robert J. Berger.
Chrome-plated hilt fittings show light surface wear/age
patina to the pommel in the form of a stylized crown
of Rudolf II, and a crossguard of stylized wings
with a central stylized bow and arrow on red and
white enamel back ground insignia of the Austrian
Air Defense. There is some chipping to the upper
edge of the red background. The upper end of the
left quillon has one tiny depression. Underside
of the right quillon is equipped with a small hook
to hold the portepee in place. White enamel over
wood grip shows shows several small surface scuffs
to the enamel. Plated cross diamond-section blade
grades EX+ showing light surface wear/age patina
but no nicks to the cutting edges. Dent-free chrome-plated
scabbard shows light surface wear/age patina but
no lifting to plating. Scabbard is complete with
a single integral suspension band with an embossed
circle motif and two suspension rings. Nice example
recently obtained in Germany. Exc+ (26472) $2,350.
