Description

SOLD

This extremely rare Gold Diplomatic Dagger (RMBO) is in fantastic condition retaining 99% of its original gold, high levels of lacquer and natural patina. The cross guard is high in relief, detailed and is in excellent shape with no dings or marks. The cross guard eagle faces the same way as the pommels eagle head. (Correct for Eickhorn RMBO daggers)

Simulated mother of pearl grips are perfect with no chips, scratches or marks and has nice yellow aged toning. Pommel eagle head is very sharp in detail and high relief. Pommel securing nut with 2 holes is showing very minor wear which possible could have occurred when it was disassembled for pictures in Angolia’s book (In The Service Of The Reich, page 136) and before I obtained the dagger. To confirm this was the same dagger with the same part numbers stamped into it, as reported to me by Angolia himself, I gently lifted the buffer pad on the blade to read the stamped number of “114” as mentioned  in the book. The blade is hallmarked Eickhorn and is bright with no chips, scratches or dints and apart from very small traces graying at the tip which doesn’t distract from the blade, would grade high. Scabbard is straight with no dints, scratches or lifting, which applies to the scabbard bands as well. Portepee is the correct type for Government official / Diplomatic daggers which are fractionally smaller then the Army, Luftwaffe, Naval portepees and is in near mint condition.

This dagger was obtained from LTC John R Angolia in 1994 and has remained in this consignor’s collection to the present date. The supporting documents confirms the origin, that the dagger was originally Count Werner Von der Schulenberg, Ambassador to Moscow 1934 – 1941 and the internal stampings are “114”. This is a fantastic high quality, original RMBO dagger. EX+/EX++. CONSIGNMENT.
