No maker. An illustration of a similar pattern lion head sword appears in the Imperial Eickhorn sales catalog as Pattern No. 30 as “Preussischer Kavalerie-Offizier-Säbel mit Löwenkopf”. Gilted brass hilt fittings show light surface wear and retain portions of the original fire gilting in the recesses of the heavily chiseled lion head pommel with red glass eyes, backstrap with raised floral motifs surrounding a stylized diamond, knuckle-bow with central raised shield flanked by a floral motif and facsimile of the Iron Cross. Crossguard with lion head quillon features a heavily chiseled obverse langet with crossed cannon barrels on a shield motif. Black sharkskin grip shows light surface wear with no rips or tears and is complete with tight twisted triple brass wire wrap. Curved quillback “maiden hair” pattern Damascus blade measuring 31 7/8″ in length grades excellent/excellent+ showing light surface wear and some gray speckling but no sharpening or nicks to cutting edge. Both obverse and reverse blade feature gilted ricassos with a 2″ long gilted floral panel and laurel leaf spine just below the ricassos. Obverse gilted panel features a central motif of a raised gilted Imperial eagle beneath the Imperial crown while the reverse blade features a 2-ribbon inscription in raised gilt letters, “Eisenhauer Damastahl” (genuine Damascus finest steel). Blade is complete with red felt blade buffer pad. Brushed nickel-plated scabbard with two brass suspension bands/rings grades excellent showing light surface wear with no depressions and only minor speckling/lifting to plating on lower portion of scabbard and drag.
