No maker. A similar example of this dagger can be found on page 77, center of “Collecting the Edged Weapons of Imperial Germany”, Volume I. Gilted brass hilt fittings show light surface wear to the highlights of the screw-off type flaming ball pommel and crossguard with fouled anchor motif on the obverse/reverse of quillon block. Black horn grip shows light surface wear with no cracks or chips and is complete with seven swirls of tight twisted brass wire wrap. Plain, plated, double-fullered blade grades EX. showing minor surface wear/runner marks with some light gray spotting, but no lifting or nicks to cutting edges. Reverse ricasso is stamped with the marine, “M”, over an anchor mark and complete with red felt blade buffer pad. Gilted brass, lightening bolt scabbard shows light surface wear and a few faint surface “dings” with traces of gilting remaining in the recesses of the lightening bolt motif and “figure-of-eight”, rope pattern, suspension bands. The scabbard is approximately 1 ¾” longer than the blade indicating that this example is a M-1919 dagger mated with a M-1921 scabbard as a cost saving measure. EX+.
