WKC, knight’s helmet stamped TM. For more information on the 1929 1st Pattern Navy dagger, see page 80 of Collecting the Edged Weapons of Imperial Germany, Volume I, by LTC (Ret.) Thomas M. Johnson and Thomas T. Wittmann. Gilded brass hilt fittings show light surface wear to highlights with much factory gilding remaining in the recesses of the flaming ball/wave-type pommel and crossguard with fouled anchor design. Off-white celluloid-over-wood grip shows light surface wear, with two tiny hairline cracks (one on the upper and lower reverse, but no chips or nicks and is complete with tight, twisted brass wire wrap. Plated, double-fullered, double-etched, blade grades EX+/EX++, showing light surface wear only with no gray shadowing/speckling or nicks to cutting edges, and retains 100% of the light gray background frosting in the fouled anchor and sailing ship etched motif. Blade is complete with dark brown leather buffer pad. The gilded brass hammered scabbard shows light surface wear primarily to the center reverse shell and retains much of the factory matte gold finish in the recesses of the hammered pattern. There is one shallow depression approximately 1″ from the obverse tip. Oak leaf pattern suspension bands and eyelets show excellent detail. The original aluminum portepee in correct “reef knot” tie grades EX+ showing light age, but no fraying or tears. Nice WKC 1929 pattern Navy dagger recently obtained from a long established, advanced edged weapons collection in the southern United States. EX+/EX++ (25867) $2,850.
