Description

SOLD

Side by Side, Kings Head and Knights Helmet TM.  Gilted brass hilt fittings show surface wear primarily to the lower knuckle-bow and obverse folding handguard with much factory frosted fire-gilting remaining in the recesses of the heavily chased oakleaf embellished pommel, backstrap, ferrule and handguard depicting the Wurttemberg coat of arms with royal crown crest.  Obverse of pommel features the Royal Cypher “KR” the King Karl.  Black/dark brown horn/celluloid grip shows only minor surface wear with no cracks or chips and is complete with tight triple silver wire wrap.  The grip is without the “WRII” cipher as is correct for Wurttemberg swords.  Hilt is complete with leather finger loop showing age/crazing.  Straight “maiden hair”, double-fullered, Damascus blade with double-etched frosted and gilted panels measuring 33” in length grades EX+/EX++ showing light surface wear but no pitting or nicks to the cutting edge.  Obverse features a 4 3/8” frosted and etched panel consisting of gilted floral motifs flanking central motif of military equipment on a gray frosted background above the raised gilt inscription “Eisenhauer” (Finest Steel).  Reverse blade features a matching 4 3/8” frosted and etched panel above the raised gilt inscription “Damaststahl” (Damascus Steel).  Ricasso of blade is gilted as well as the spine which features a laurel leaf motif running the entire length of the etched panels.  Blade is complete with off-white leather blade buffer pad.  The original nickel scabbard with double suspension bands/rings has been anodized and the lower suspension band/ring removed to conform to the 1908 regulations.  Scabbard shows surface wear and several depressions to the lower obverse and reverse.  Nice Wurttemberg M-89 Infantry Damascus example obtained in Germany.
