Presented to Friedrich Frhr. Cotta von Cottendorg (dob 11/5/1868), a Lieutenant in Ulan Regt. 20 and later a Rittmeister in Res Ulan Regt. 20 (See Imperial Rangliste 1894-1912). The presenter appears to be Otto Frhr. Von Lindenfels (dob 28/9/1868), Rittmeister in Ulan Regt. 20 in 1905-1918. Since both officers with the names were in the same regiment at the same time, it is pretty compelling that the correct two officers have been identified. Both officers were made Rittmeisters in 1905 and this may have been the occasion of the presentation of the sword. Beautiful genuine Damascus steel blade features the presentation and “Eisenhauer Damast-Stahl” (the finest Damascus steel) with raised letters on a gold background. The recipients family crest is etched on the reverse langet. Original black lacquer scabbard is completely dent-free. EX++.
