Description
No maker. Double-engraved, nickel-plated axe head shows light surface wear to the oak leaves, fire helmet and fire axes. Black wooden handle is ornately carved on the lower half with oak leaves and checkering. Upper handle features presentation plates on both obverse and reverse. One plate is engraved, “Ihrem Langjahrigen Zugführer Hermann Winkelmann Auerbach Den 12.9.1909” (To our longtime Platoon Leader Hermann Winkelmann Auerbach on 12 September 1909). Other plate is engraved, “Gewidmet Vom Steigerzug” (Presented by the climbing/ladder Platoon). Lower handle has nickel-plated end cap featuring etched ferrule and engraved pattern. Fittings show only light surface wear. Complete w/double-strap black hanger showing wear to leather/minor lifting to nickel-plated fittings. Vet purchased in Germany complete with accompanying hangers.
