Description

 

No maker. Nickel-plated hilt fittings show minor surface wear to upper edge of pommel  with virtually 100% of the factory lacquer remaining on pommel and crossguard with excellent detail to the Red Cross emblem on the obverse langet.  Black bakelite grip plates show minor wear/age with one tiny chip to the lower right edge of the obverse plate but, no no cracks. The reverse plate is lightly scratched with the letters/initials, “BRC”. Polished, double-sawtooth blade grades EX+ with gray spotting to obverse/reverse flats but, no pitting or nicks to cutting edge and no damage to the double-sawtooth spine. The reverse ricasso is marked Ges. Geschütz and blade is complete with black leather buffer pad.  Dent-free, steel scabbard retains approximately 90% of the black enamel showing surface scratches and speckling with a spot of missing enamel on the center obverse shell. Dent-free, nickel-plated scabbard fittings show minor surface age with virtually 100% of the factory lacquer remaining with no damage to the retaining  screws.  The lower reverse  shell is lightly scratched with the name, “Bill Chaplin”, possibly the veteran who brought the hewer home as “war booty” and whose initials, “BRC” are scratched on the reverse grip plate..
