Description
No maker. Fire – gilded hilt shows almost no wear to flat pommel, grooved knuckle-bow, and obverse folding handguard with the Prussian Eagle. Pommel cap is professionally engraved with the letter “K”. Black, bakelite grip with triple strand wire shows grades near MINT showing no wear and very light age to Kaiser Wilhelm cypher. Thump strap is undamaged and shows only light age. Straight, plated blade grades EX++ showing only light surface wear and minor nicks to cutting edge and is complete with leather buffer pad. Deeply etched upper portion features floral motif with blued background and gilded high points. Obverse features banner dedication: “PENTSCH S/L. KUSLIK 1908”. Maj Petsch appears in the 1903 Prussian Rank list assigned to Armee Korps v. Kleist and Lt Kuslik appears in the 1908 Prussian Rank List assigned to Infantry Regiment Winterfeldt 2. Oberschliesien No. 23. Obviously a commisiioning gift presented by Maj Pentsch to Lt Kuslik in 1908. Dent-free steel scabbard with single suspension ring retains 95% of its annodized finish showing minor surface and a very minor depression toward tip. EX++.
