E. Pack & Söhne, Solingen Siegfried wielding hammer stamped TM. A description and illustration of this sword appear on pages 162/163 of Collecting the Edged Weapons of the Third Reich, Volume II, from the translation of the E. Pack & Söhne catalog, Pattern Nr. 543. Gilted brass hilt fittings show light surface wear with much gilting remaining to the heavily chiseled lion head pommel with red glass eyes, floral motif backstrap, oak leaf embellished knuckle-bow, and crossguard with open wing Wehrmacht eagle. Black celluloid-over-wood grip shows light surface wear with no cracks or chips and is complete with twisted wire wrap. Curved, plated, double-engraved blade measuring 27 ¾” in length grades excellent+ showing light surface wear/runner marks and some minor gray speckling to the spine, but no nicks or damage to the cutting edge. Both obverse and reverse blade feature 18 3/8″ long gold-filled engraved oak leaf motifs flanking central presentation panels. Obverse center panel features the gold-filled engraved inscription, “Unserem Arbeitskameraden Feldwebel Hans Frink zur Erinnerung an den Freiheitskampf 1939” (our fellow worker Feldwebel Hans Frink in remembrance of the fight for freedom 1939). Reverse blade features the gold-filled inscription, “Gewidmet von Betriebsführer und Gefolgschaft der Firma Ernst Pack & Söhne” (presented by the management and employees of Firm Ernst Pack & Söhne). Engraved motifs and inscriptions show light wear to the gold filling, and blade is complete with felt blade buffer pad. Steel scabbard retains approximately 90% of the original black enamel showing light surface wear/minor scuffing with a surface depression to both the lower obverse and reverse. Nice presentation sword featuring unique gold-filled oak leaf motifs and presentation inscriptions. EX+/EX++.
