Description

Royal Prussian Lion Head Sword for Mounted Police. Carl Eickhorn, back-to-back squirrels over C.E. TM. An illustration of this sword appears on page 85 of the reprint of the 1908 Musterbuch der Waffenfabrik Carl Eickhorn Solingen as pattern Nr. 666 Offiziersäbel mit Löwenkopf für berritene Gendarmen. Nickel-plated hilt fittings show light wear and some minor lifting to the plating on the lion head pommel without glass eyes, backstrap and knuckle-bow with geometric motif, oak leaf pattern ferrule and crossguard with raised crossed cannon barrels inside oak leaf border. Black bakelite grip shows light surface wear with no cracks or chips. Several strands of the triple, twisted grip wire are loose, but none are missing or broken. Plain, curved matt finished blade measuring 30 ¼” in length grades EX showing light surface wear some light gray shadowing/speckling, but no nicks to cutting edge and is complete with brown leather blade buffer pad. Dent-free, steel scabbard shows much wear and age speckling and is complete with a single suspension band/ring. Rare sword recently veteran acquired. EX
