Carl Eickhorn, squirrel over C.E. double oval TM. An illustration of this pattern sword appears in the “Eickhorn Kundendienst” as “Patent=Offiziersäbel Nr. 1312”. Early gilted brass hilt fittings show virtually no wear to highlights with 100% of the fire gilting remaining on the lion head pommel with red glass eyes, oak leaf embellished backstrap, knuckle-bow and ferrule, as well as crossguard with heavily chased crossed swords and oak leaves on the obverse langet. Black celluloid-over-wood grip shows minor surface wear with no cracks, chips or damage, and is complete with triple copper wire wrap. Plated double-etched blade measuring 33″ in length grades EX++ showing minor surface wear/runner marks but no lifting or nicks to cutting edge and is complete with brown leather blade buffer pad. Obverse and reverse blade feature an etched pattern which appears in the “Eickhorn Kundendienst” as number “3237”, and consists of 12 1/2″ long panels with a floral and military equipment motif on a frosted silver background with 100% or the frosting remaining. Dent-free steel scabbard retains approximately 98% of the original black enamel showing virtually no crazing and only a few specks of missing paint. Superb early Eickhorn example with rare double-etched blade. EX++.
