Puma head to the left of PUMA Solingen TM. Photographs of this pattern sword appear on page 118 of Swords of Germany 1900/1945 by John R. Angolia as “Puma model (unattributed)”. Gold washed aluminum hilt fittings show wear highlights with much gold wash remaining on the oak leaf embellished pommel/backstrap/ferrule, flat knuckle-bow with oak leaf embellishments and crossguard with well detailed, close-winged, Wehrmacht eagle on stippled background, within a raised border, on the obverse langet. Black celluloid-over-wood grip shows virtually no wear with no, nicks, scratches or hairline cracks, and is complete with tight, twisted silver, triple wire wrap. Plated blade measuring 33 5/8″ in length grades EX+ surface wear/runner marks, minor light gray shadowing and a few minor nicks to cutting edge but, no lifting or pitting, and is complete with dark brown leather buffer pad./crazing to obverse/reverse shell and some scuffing primarily to reverse shell. Nice example of a Puma sword with ornate hilt. EX+ (26800)
