ROB. GIERSCH, SOLINGEN with image of a nun TM. Both Ralph Siegert’s SA book and the “McSarr” list rate this maker a “7”. Nickel-silver hilt fittings show uncleaned surface wear/yellow age patina and green verdigris with reverse lower crossguard marked “Wm” for Westmark. Medium reddish-brown, fine-grained wooden grip shows light surface wear but, no chips or cracks and with silver grip eagle and SA insert properly inset. Mirror polished blade grades EX+/EX++ showing surface wear/runner marks and very minor speckling with no nicks or cuts to the cutting edge. Deeply etched motto retains 99% of the light gray background frosting. Dent-free, steel scabbard retains approximately 95% of the brown anodization and 80% of the lacquer but, shows areas of surface rust. Nickel-silver scabbard fittings show surface wear/yellow age patina matching the hilt fittings and no damage to ball. DRGM/Assmann marked hanger grades EX+. EX+.
