Description

ROBT KLAAS SOLINGEN, beneath two small stamped cranes TM.  This pattern trademark is illustrated on page 244 of The Sword and Knife Makers Of Germany 1850-2000 Volume 1 by the late Anthony Carter. The natural aluminum hilt fittings retain much of the factory darkening on the pommel with pebbled background to the oak leaf motif, ferrule and crossguard with relief-style oak leaves featuring right leaf over left motif on the upper quillon surfaces and courser pebbled panel on the reverse crossguard. Medium-yellow, solid celluloid grip with tight spongy aluminum wire wrap shows light surface wear with one tiny hairline crack on the upper right extending from the base of the pommel to the first wire strand and a hairline crack on the lower reverse adjacent to the ferrule, but no chips or surface damage. Plated blade grades EX++ showing light surface wear/runner marks and a few surface scratches, but no pitting or nicks to cutting edges, and is complete with black leather buffer pad. Dent-free scabbard shows wear and surface spotting to the factory gray finish on the pebbled shell an oak leaf suspension bands with the scabbard throat retained by a reverse-mounted, headless screw. Nice Klaas example.
