Description

Original Eickhorn Solingen, stamped squirrel holding sword TM. Early heavy brass hilt fittings show virtually no wear/age to factory lacquer with 100% of the matte, honey gold factory gilding remaining on the highlights and within the recesses of the lion head pommel with red glass eyes, oak leaf embellished backstrap, knuckle-bow and ferrule, as well as crossguard with open wing eagle on the obverse crossguard. Underside of crossguard is stamped “DRP”.  Black celluloid-over-wood grip is perfect with no cracks, chips, or surface damage, and is complete with triple aluminum wire wrap. Plated blade measuring 33 ¼” in length grades Near MINT showing only faint age, but no graying, lifting, pitting or nicks to cutting edge and no damage to the blade tip. Blade is complete with a tan leather buffer pad. The obverse blade is marked in bright magenta hand-printed letters with the model number, “1710  O. H.  H S” and price “/ RM 25- ”. Dent-free steel scabbard retains 99% of the professionally repainted black enamel, showing only a small chip along the top edge. The Eickhorn metal control tag retains 100% of the red enamel, however, the paper insert has been lost to time. The gray flannel hilt cover, similar to the one shown on page 2 of the Eickhorn Kundendienst, grades EX++ and is stamped in red on the obverse with the Original Eickhorn, Solingen squirrel holding sword trademark and “D.R.G.M.”.  Cover shows minor wear/age with some surface soiling, but no rips or tears and is equipped with two metal eyelets to accommodate a string closure which is missing. A truly superb grouping and a show piece for any edged weapon collection!
